The Arrival by Shaun Tan
The Arrival is a wordless story about a father that leaves his family in search of work to provide for them. At first when reading this story It was a bit confusing figure out just what this story was about. as I continued to read I realized that the story was being told by facial expressions, hand gestures, and actions of each character. I was able to understand that the father was looking for a place to stay when he showed the inn keep the picture of a bed, Or that he was looking for food when he showed a picture of bread. However these alone wasn't the only this that help moved the story, the illustrations themselves played an important role too.
The illustrations ranged from one large image to many small panels. The author wanted to show that when something was really important to the story he used a one page panel with a vast amount of detail. as for the small panels those were used to show moment to moment events.
